A new painting from the story of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll.


Today we set up the exhibition for the Loumax Gallery in Katoomba. There are two other artists sharing the space with a room each - Des Conner with his paintings and Cristopher Auckett a printmaker. When I get some pics I'll post them here.
In the meantime the exhibition officially opens this Saturday 1st March from 4 - 6pm and all are welcome. The address is 56a Lovel St, Katoomba.
I will also be opening another exhibition next week and will give more specific dates once it's set up. A lot of the new collaged works I've been doing will be displayed there.

"The Cup"

This picture shows the evolution of a painting I'm working on at the moment called "The Cup". It shows the basics from initial sketch through to sketch on canvas and the beginnings of paint and collage.

Collage is a wonderful way of discovering new colour and shape in the overall painting. It's also a good motivator. If you don't feel like 'starting' a painting just yet ripping up bits of paper and sticking them on canvas gets you going without having to be fully focused. It's very relaxing and inspiring at the same time.

I couldn't quite carry on with my other paintings until I fixed what was bugging me about the painting below. So now that I've added a pair of albatrosses I can resume what I was doing! :)

I'm not sure yet if I have to do more detail on this one. It's quite a simple piece but the appeal is in the texture - which you can't get a good enough feel from the scan. The original colours are also much deeper and more contrasting then you see here. Below is the sketch - a little different to the outcome.

I am currently working on works for two exhibitions which will start in about 3 weeks time. Both of these exhibitions will be held in Blue Mountains locations. One of them will be at the Loumax Gallery (56a Lovell Street, Katoomba) which opens on the 1st of March. The second exhibition, opening on the 4th of March, will be at Cafe Memento in Blackheath. Both exhibitions will contain a selection of older and new works as well as some framed prints.
